Some kitchen islands and carts come with a counter top that is designed for eating space. With the addition of chairs or barstools, this counter overhang can be used as an informal dining area. Even large kitchen carts, however, generally only provide room for two to four place settings of dining area. This dining area can be provided with the counter space already present with the kitchen island cart or a drop leaf that can be detached from the cart.
Before making the move to buy a kitchen island, there are certain things that need to be taken into account. The first is the shape of the kitchen. They do not look pretty in square size kitchen, rather they are more suitable for L- shaped and U- shaped kitchen, as in such kitchens they make the distance appear shorter and often guides the moving in and out of the kitchen. The second should be the purpose of incorporating the island into the kitchen. The third should be the design and pattern of the island, so that it complements the look of the whole kitchen. If the design of the island does not match with the overall look and appearance of the whole kitchen, then it might destroy the look of the entire kitchen by standing as an awkward piece of furniture. The final thing to be considered is the budget. Now the islands are available in different price ranges, some of which are budget friendly. The kitchen island needs to enhance the efficiency of your kitchen, so there is no hard and fast rule that they need to be expensive as well.
The design of a kitchen island top is completely up to the homeowner. Some of the islands come in a natural wood color. This allows the homeowner to keep the kitchen island counter in the natural wood finish or the counter can be stained. Before designing the kitchen island countertop, the homeowner should decide what look he or she is trying to achieve in the kitchen. A new trendy is to install a kitchen island top that is a bright color that doesn’t necessarily match the already present color scheme in the kitchen. This makes the kitchen seem more artsy and funky and can make the island really stand out in the room. A homeowner may also decide that he or she wants a traditional kitchen island countertop that matches the rest of the color scheme. He or she will then need to design the kitchen island counter with the same materials and staining as the rest of the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen.
